Star Wars Characters with Red and Blue Lightsaber

Star Wars Characters with Red and Blue Lightsaber

The lightsaber is among the iconic weapons the Sith and Jedi used in Star Wars.

However, some characters have gone so far as to wield different versions of the weapons.

The Jedi favoured different colours, while the Sith exclusively wielded red lightsabers. Among those different colours, blue has gained immense popularity.

Obi-Wan Kenobi called it an elegant weapon, but it is among the most famous weapons you will ever see in the movie.

The movie was a hit, with Luke Skywalker taking over his father’s lightsaber. The entire sequel trilogy revolved around Rey, who was connected to Anakin’s blue lightsaber.

In the entire movie, the weapon is as important as the characters.

Here are some characters, the Star Wars heroes and villains who wielded red and blue lightsabers.

Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader

The most famous character was Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi who turned to Sith in the Star Wars.

When Anakin was a Jedi knight, he used to wield a blue lightsaber. He held it in the movies and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Anakin has used different lightsabers as a Padawan. However, the blue lightsaber that he used in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was the same as Luke used in A New Hope after 19 years.

He used the blade in all of the Clone Wars, making it closely related to Anakin as a Jedi knight.

When Anakin fell towards the dark side, he used a hallmark red blade of the Sith. After a duel between him and Obi-Wan Kenobi, his blue lightsaber was then taken over by Kenobi.

Anakin was forced to acquire and bleed a new Kyber crystal for his Sith weapon.

Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus

Count Dooku was shown as a Sith in the movies. However, like Darth Vader, he was trained as a Jedi before he joined the dark side.

You can gain insights about Dooku’s backstory from Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. It revealed that he had used a blue lightsaber for most of his life before his betrayal was shown.

Dooku was getting trained by Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn’s master. However, he was also the Jedi from the Jedi archives behind Kamino.

When he turned to the dark side, he adopted the name Darth Tyranus. After that, his blade became the iconic red Sith color.

Dooku used the same weapon throughout the Star Wars prequels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars for his entire lightsaber battles.

Ben Solo / Kylo Ren

He was the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo and was trained as a Jedi when he was known as Ben Solo.

Luke Skywalker trained Ben, so he used a blue lightsaber in Star Wars throughout his Jedi years.

Eventually, when he reappeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he wielded his grandfather’s blue lightsaber.

When he earned the power to use a Jedi’s blade, he wielded that blue lightsaber against Emperor Palpatine with Rey.

Most of the time, you must have seen his identity as Kylo Ren. He was not exactly a Sith Lord, but still, he was carrying the dark side of the Force.

Before the Kyber crystal split, his original blue saber blade turned red.

Later, Kylo Ren used a new crossguard hilt to refit his lightsaber crystal.

Conclusion

Lightsabers hold the same importance as any character trait.

The hilt is the only thing that is unique to its user. Further, the blade colour can provide information about a Jedi or Sith’s fighting style.

Lastly, the complexities of the Force are reflected by the crystals used in the weapons.
